This is the Mithila art which has been the standard art which has been drawn at the walls of the houses (old houses), during the marriage ceremony and some auspicious occasions. These are the basic art which has been copied and drawn, re-drawn with many mithila women and the art gradually flourished and survived. |

One thing which gives proud to all people who lives in Madhubani, as it put Madhubani on the global recognition is Mithila Painting. I was aware of the Mithila Paintings since long time. But in 2004, when I had gone Madhubani to tie a knot with my dream girl, during that time I came in contact with a person who was doing the Mithila Painting as a profession, and my interest in Mithila Painting started deepening. And then again when I went to Madhubani this year, 2009, in Feb-Mar, is when I got time to meet with the real maestro in this field of Mithila Painting. The maestro to whom I visited lives in Ranti, village of Madhubani. It is hardly 15 minutes on bike from Madhubani Bus Stand.
I reached their home, on 6-Mar-2009. The photo of their room from outside is shown below.
You will guess the prowess of the art work of these maestro by knowing that they have grabbed 3 Rastrapati Awards. Recently last year in Dec 15, Mrs. Bibha Das who is the Bahu, daughter-in-law of Mrs. Mahasundri Devi, has grabbed the Rastrapati Award.
Mahasundri Devi is the first lady to won the Rastrapati Award in 1961 for Mithila Artwork. So you can be sure that this is the right place, to know about this art work. When I saw the artwork of these great ladies, I was just got astonished. The works are really the nice work. The Mithila Painting has one unique concept of filling the art with fine lines and not the complete color painting. This type of art is called "Sujuni". This is the uniqueness of this art work which keeps it separate from the other artwork.
The popularity and the global recognition of this art work is evident from the fact that the homes of these maestro has been visited by foreign tourist from 66 countries. Some good number of these foreign tourist have stayed with these maestro in their homes, to learn about this art work.
My father-in-law was saying that, there were times when, they were living in hut, and with this god given, talent they are now living a normal life, quite decent considering the village in which they live.
So, it is necessary now to give you glimpse of the Mithila Paintings, these are the work done by these ladies and, I have taken the permission to display it here. The sole purpose is to promote their work:

Madhubani, a district in Bihar, around 140 KM from Patna, is open for lots of possibilities and things to be done to flourish it as one of the best city. When you move from Patna to Madhubani, you will find the people speaking Maithili language, you would definitely notice the honesty and innocence of the people of Madhubani. When I had visited, Madhubani in 2003, after a gap of 6 years, I had found people of Madhubani more friendly, honest and true than I had thought of.
Being myself from a village called Hissar in Madhubani district, I started falling in love with Madhubani, since I visited Madhubani in 2003. And when you love some thing you are ought to pay the homage, and my this blog is in the process of that homage to this piece of my motherland. I do dream of the beautification and investing in the work of Madhubani so that Madhubani will shine soon than, it will if we do not think towards this. And via this blog I want to connect with the people who are resident of this place and who are equally inclined to act towards the betterment of Madhubani. Because if we synergies with common goal we will achieve our goal faster and with the better result. To synergies it is necessary to be clear crystal of the goal. The goal is to dream for the betterment of Madhubani, in any way, and then you may need the discussion and finally the most important is the action. And till you realize your dream, you need the support and that will be coming from the group of people of this blog.
For all the bright brains of Madhubani who have not visited this place in recent times, let me introduce with some of the current state of Madhubani. Last time when I had gone Madhubani in 2007 April, at that time was hearing, "... roads are going to be constructed very soon..." And this time when I visited, Madhubani, really some good roads are under construction. Almost every day the construction is progressing at good speed, which is vivid with the road status on the way from Patni to Madhubani, by Bus.
When you reach Madhubani, you would search a Hotel to stay, and it has one of the hotel, which I know, where you can take shelter at average comfort level. I had stayed in the hotel in 2004 and is also kind of sole leader hotel in Madhubani, name is Sumanta Hotel. The hotel is quite near from the Bus Stand. Whole Madhubani market is not that big, so for outsider it will be things are quite near to each other. For a little surprise you will find that the non-veg food in the hotel is of better taste than the vegetarian foods, though the vegetarian people are of substantial count in Madhubani. Recently one more Hotel is being constructed, which is best in its outlook, matching any of the good hotels at average level in any metro city. A sign of modernisation! So there are good opportunity of a nice Hotels with good food and service.
There are showrooms, which are being opened. The another good news is that a Medical College is going to established in Madhubani. The infrastructure preparation for the College will start from 2010. This in itself will bring good opportunity and some improvements. People are thinking to open some good stationery shops, coffee shops and some girls hostels. The Cinema halls, well there are two Cinema halls, having crowds visiting when some good movies are there. The status of cinema halls are as expected in normal city. It needs lots of improvements. The out look and the sitting environment inside the halls needs improvement.
